April
April is a funny month. There's this feeling of anticipation as the days start to get warmer and light lingers a bit longer, an endless to-do list with nothing much to show for it, and this knowledge that things are just waiting to burst into growth. It feels slow and all at once. I'm reminded that it's truly my favorite time of year as songbirds return to the farm, every day something new pops up from the soil in the garden, and we start seeing all the beautiful shades of green as life comes back to the fields and forest. It's a balance of staying on top of the many farm tasks both inside and out and also slowing down to enjoy the splendor that is Spring.
I was greeted by this bunch of mini daffodils on one of my morning farm walks.
Flowers
Seeds are getting sown indoors and plants are going into the greenhouse. Our field plots are getting cleaned up and overwintered plants are getting trimmed and ready for the season.
Feverfew that was overwintered in one of our outdoor plots.
Flower CSA
Our Flower Bouquet CSAs are almost full! If you've been waiting to join, now's the time. For more info and to sign up, click here.
Garlic
Our crop of garlic overwintered well and is already a couple inches high. Our plan for most of this garlic is to increase our seed stock for Fall planting but we may have a limited supply available to customers. We will have more info once the harvest is in later this summer. We will have scapes available so if you are interested in a bulk order of scapes, let us know!
Garlic in our main field is already putting on a lot of growth!
The Red Barn Farmhouse
Work on the upstairs renovation is in the final stages at the farmhouse and we hope to have it ready for rental later this summer. Jackson has put in countless hours (and listened to a lot of Grateful Dead) finishing up little details and getting it near completion. We are so appreciative of all the people who have helped get it to this point and we can't wait to welcome you through the front door!
Walls are getting prepped for paint in the Red Barn Farmhouse! Stay tuned for more details about staying with us on the farm.
Lots of work is happening behind the scenes to get the farm ready for the season! We can't wait to get our flowers into your hands and welcome you to the farm.
